Letting Your Talent Be Heard
Whether your passion is guitar, rap, piano, or voice, Blue Ridge School has a way to enjoy and develop your gifts. For singers, our vocal group The Barontones performs and competes throughout the region. Our introductory and advanced guitar classes help boys at every level master the instrument. Our Jazz Band receives glowing reviews for our talented musicians. And one-on-one advanced instruction allows boys at every level develop their skills on a variety of instruments. Our award-winning musical arts programs include:
- GUITAR ENSEMBLE. This course focuses on guitar fundamentals, as well as solo and group performance.
- CONCERT BAND ENSEMBLE. This group changes each year, tailoring itself to suit the different gifts of the boys who join. It a competitive group, reserved for those with established music experience and gives boys the chance to write and perform their own songs.
- MUSIC HISTORY. From southern gospel and Appalachian bluegrass to 60s-era and contemporary music, this course explores the role of music in social justice throughout history.
- GUITAR LAB. This advanced course exposes students to different styles and genres of playing. Before the semester is complete, each boy will be asked to contribute to an original composition.
Blue Ridge School’s musical programs have garnered multiple state and regional awards, including:
2018 – Williamsburg Heritage Festival WorldStrides music competition: 3 Maestro awards for singing, 1st place (Gold Award) Jazz Band, Division 1A
2017 – Haedeun Kim ’18 participated in a concert performed at the DMZ with the Lindenbaum Festival
2016 – Annapolis Heritage Music Festival WorldStrides music competition: 2nd place (Silver Award) Jazz Band, Division 1A
