Baron football players Jack McLiney ‘19, Juan Mareco ‘18, Xavier Kane ‘19, Cameron Carr ‘18 and Icesys Lewis ’19 attended the Army All-American National Combine in San Antonio, Texas, on January 5 through 7. This combine is a prestigious national football event that runs in conjunction with the Army All-American Game and focuses on measuring speed, strength, quickness and football skills. It also offers educational seminars on leadership. Held annually, the National Combine is the first opportunity for the nation’s top underclassmen to demonstrate their physical talent and compete against one another before schools’ top scouting organizations, including 247Sports, as well as the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee.
The McLiney family hosted the boys during their stay in San Antonio. Mr. McLiney wrote to Coach Thomas: “… [our athletes] were perfect gentlemen and they did a fine job representing BRS on and off the field.” Mark and Jennifer, along with Jack, shared their Texan culture during their free time which included trips to Mexican restaurants to listen to mariachi music, a taste of real Texas Bar-B-Q, a visit to the Alamo, and a visit to the McLiney ranch where the boys fed longhorn cattle and shot various guns.
Mark reports they all enjoyed themselves and added: “We would gladly host any BRS gentlemen in the future.”
