BRS Promotes Vinton Bruton to Associate Headmaster

Vinton Bruton

Blue Ridge School Headmaster Trip Darrin has promoted Vinton Bruton to the role of Associate Headmaster for Operations. In this role, Bruton is responsible for campus health and safety and co-curricular programs, which includes athletics, character education, student advising, performing arts, student spiritual life, and outdoor programs. Mr. Bruton also teaches 11th grade history and humanities.

Mr. Darrin says, “Vinton is an outstanding leader. Some say the true test of leadership is how you function in times of crisis. Serving in a central role stewarding on-campus school operations, Vinton’s leadership has shone especially brightly these past eleven months. I am excited that this promotion gives me the chance to shine a spotlight on his excellence, especially because he’d never let me do it otherwise! My heartfelt congratulations and gratitude are extended to Vinton Bruton for his dedication to the boys and to the mission of Blue Ridge School.”

Mr. Bruton joined the faculty more than 12 years ago after nearly ten years in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in leadership from Gordon College.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Bruton has led Blue Ridge School’s COVID Task Force. This task force has worked tirelessly to protect the BRS community by researching best practices for classroom and dorm modifications, procuring adequate testing supplies and vendors, modifying the academic calendar, and introducing campus safety protocols have allowed the School to safely conduct in-person classes for its students.

At Blue Ridge School, Bruton created the Outdoorsmen Program, which teaches students wilderness skills as well as firearms and archery safety. He also created the Character Education Program, which has grown into a standalone curriculum teaching integrity, respect, personal responsibility, and moral courage.

He is an avid historian and outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing across the region. He is also an American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid instructor and training to be a volunteer firefighter in Crozet, Virginia. Mr. Bruton lives on the campus of Blue Ridge School with his wife and their three children.
