Charlie King Earns Eagle Scout Rank

Eagle Scout celebration for Charlie King

Congratulations to junior Charlie King, who recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. His award ceremony was held on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

Charlie is a member of the Swamp Fox Scouts. He continues a family tradition as his great-grandfather, grandfather, father and brother are also Eagle Scouts. In addition to his excellent scouting, Charlie is a member of the National Honor Society.

On the playing field, Charlie is a passionate lacrosse player. He helped the A.C. Flora High School Falcons of Columbia, South Carolina, win the Upper-State Championship in the 2017 season, and he was named Upper-State defensive player of the year as well as First Team All-State.

Charlie’s Eagle Scout project entailed designing and building an outdoor classroom for his former school, Crayton Middle School in Columbia. The classroom includes four large benches, pine tree stump stools and a covered blackboard and presentation platform. Charlie chose this project to give future students an engaging outdoor learning environment. All components of the classroom are easily movable for small and large group configurations.

There was also a dedication ceremony at the School with middle school boy scouts. His mother, Beatrice King, reports that the outdoor classroom is already being used by several teachers.

Charlie began his scouting experience in the sixth grade with the Swamp Fox patrol at Troop 10. He has played an active role in a variety of civic, community and faith-sponsored programs such as Youth in Government, Home Works of America and Vacation Bible School. He was a senior patrol leader and is also a member of the Scouts Honor Society – The Order of the Arrow.
