After three years at Blue Ridge School, Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach Michael Herring has been named the head lacrosse coach at Young Harris College, a liberal arts college in north Georgia.
“We are proud of the success Michael has had at Blue Ridge, both as a coach and as a mentor to our students. While his coaching record is impressive, I think Michael’s greatest achievement at Blue Ridge is creating a culture of personal accountability, good character, and mutual respect among his players,” says Blue Ridge School Headmaster Trip Darrin.
Herring arrived at Blue Ridge School in the fall of 2017 from Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts. He has been a teacher and director of admissions, as well as lacrosse coach. In Michael’s three years as the head lacrosse coach, which included two full seasons and one shortened season, he led the varsity lacrosse team to a 32-10 record overall and an undefeated 16-0 record in the conference. The varsity lacrosse team won two VIC Conference Championships and qualified for the Division 1 VISAA State Tournament twice.
Blue Ridge School Athletic Director Bryan Puckett says, “Coach Herring embraced the School’s tradition of outstanding lacrosse and over the years has recruited excellent student-athletes who are leaders on and off the field. Many of his players have gone on to play at the Division 1 level and it is safe to say that all of his players have become better men due to Michael’s mentorship”
Blue Ridge School will immediately begin a nationwide search for Herring’s replacement.
