Local Hero Tony Brown

Blue Ridge School’s Dean of Students Tony Brown was selected by the law firm of Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen as one of the winners of the 2018 Allen & Allen Hometown Heroes Award.

The award celebrates acts of kindness and heroism throughout Richmond, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and surrounding areas.

Tony inspires and leads his students by example through his involvement in community service projects. Six years ago, Tony founded a Greene County food pantry at the school, where he and BRS students volunteer every Saturday morning. He is also joined at the pantry by former teacher Paul Fehlner and several area residents. Once a year, his students gather to pack and deliver meals to be distributed by Rise Against Hunger to poverty stricken areas around the world. Tony has also partnered with Blue Ridge High School for the purpose of expanding third world nations’ economic and educational opportunities through programs including “Ride the Ridge”, the high school’s annual spring bike race that raises funds for World Bicycle Organization. Tony encourages his students to learn about life through service and gratitude. “Exposing students to how different people’s situations impact the way they live, broadens their perspective on life and service.”

Tony is one of several locals selected by the law firm of Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen as one of the winners of the 2018 Allen & Allen Hometown Heroes Award. “We’re honored to recognize the special people in our communities who are making a difference on an individual basis,” said Edward Allen, President of Allen & Allen. “For over 100 years Allen & Allen has been inspired by the people we have helped. Today, we recognize the heroes around us—those you might not hear about. These are everyday people who devote their time, energy, and talents to improving our communities.”

The public was asked to complete a nomination form in recognition of their favorite local hero. The award represents an annual tradition for the local law firm, having honored over 400 individuals since it was created in 2010.

This year’s Allen & Allen Hometown Heroes will be honored at a series of award events taking place in Richmond and Charlottesville.  The law firm invites the community to come out and celebrate these extraordinary individuals.
