On Sunday, May 19, students and faculty of Blue Ridge School held the first of many celebrations at the end of the academic year: the Honors Service. During this Service, students announce the recipients of the annual Faculty Award, and new student leaders for the 2019-20 are welcomed.
Two faculty members were given the Faculty Award. The first recipient was Mrs. Amber Wilkins, college counselor and social activities director. Student Body President Khaled Aburamadan said of Mrs. Wilkins, “She spent time individually with every senior, helping us to discern colleges that would be right for us, and then she walked us through the process of many different things, such as writing essays, filling out applications, and meeting deadlines. And she did this with grace and love and care.”
The second recipient of the Faculty Award was Dr. Kevin Miller, associate headmaster for student outcomes and director of the Fishburne Learning Center. Of Dr. Miller’s 19 years of service to Blue Ridge School and the students, Aburamadan said, “Yes, his announcements over the speaker at 8 o’clock could drive us crazy. Yes, he could call us to task on not shaving, not being in dress code, or not being on time. But—to be honest—this all made us better students and better members of the BRS community.”
The 9th-Grade Citizenship Award was presented to Robert Boyd, Derek Godwin, Selorm Kalitsi, Ryan Locker, Matt Sawyer, Reuben Walbrook, and Tate Whitmer.
The 10th-Grade Citizenship Award was presented to Spencer Amacher, Jack Charboneau, Tristan Emmanuel, Mike Gray, Cole Kennedy, John Lee, Hibiki Sakurai, and Ali Tejani.
The 11th-Grade Citizenship Award was presented to Sasha Glushkov, Mike Han, Yuto Hiraki, Andrew Jorgensen, Cam Kewley, Keegan Kozack, Andrew Landman, Andy Nwaoko, Adam Thistlethwaite, and Tramell Thompson.
The following students were elected as class representatives: Sophomores Derek Godwin and Mike Wang; Juniors John Lee and Kevin Li; and Yuto Hiraki and Andrew Landman. Senior class vice president is Cam Kewley. Senior class president and student body president is Mike Han.
Chapel Leaders for 2019-20 are Levi Moss, Jack Dickey, Andrew Landman, Jasper Murphy, and Tate Whitmer.
Junior class proctors for 2019-20 are Spencer Amacher, Jack Charboneau, Kaylen Danos, Ben Faulconer, Michael Gray, Willian Huang, John Lee, Hibiki Sakurai, Tony Sheng, Ali Tejani, and Ryan Wills.
Senior class prefects for 2019-20 are Mike Han, Yuto Hiraki, Andrew Jorgensen, Cam Kewley, Keegan Kozack, Andrew Landman, Iceysis Lewis, Jack Lutzker, Andy Nwaoko, and Tramell Thompson.
The student members of the Disciplinary Committee for 2019-20 are St. George Donovan, Andrew Jorgensen, Josh Meighan, and Tramell Thompson.
The members of the Student Honor Council for 2019-20 are Dylan Bradley, Bryce Dillard, Aidan Johnson, Thomas Kim, Andrew Landman, Joseph Whelan, and Jimmy Yang.
