This Saturday, twenty-seven Blue Ridge School teachers and student-athletes competed in the three-hour Rumble category in the Race the Ridge competition, jointly sponsored by Blue Ridge School and Adventure Addicts Racing. There were three categories: a beginner three-hour race (Rumble), a six-hour race for more experienced adventurers (Rush) and a grueling fifteen-hour race (Rampage). The race took place on the School’s 750-acre campus and 15 miles mountain biking trails. The six and 15 hour races began on campus and extended into the surrounding mountains.
The Rumble is a beginner-friendly adventure race designed for those who are new to the sport.
Participants in the Rumble had three hours to hike, run and bike through the Blue Ridge School campus. Teams were given a map they used to find orienteering flags that had been placed along the course. The flags were on trails, buildings and even old ruins that exist on several trails. The course is not marked and teams followed the course rules to make their way to checkpoints. The team that collected the most checkpoint flags in the fastest time won!
Outdoor Program teacher Mr. Cory Woods was first in the solo category, and Cruz Mike, Selby Morgan, Tristan Adams and Colby Boyd were first in the four-man category. Zach Neumann, Harry Xue, Wai Kwan Ng and Mr. Vinton Bruton were second.
Other BRS students who completed the three-hour course were Ballard Earley, Byce Adkison, Liam Moran, Tucker Fritz, Dial Power, Jack Cline, Tony Sheng, Peter Sun, Henry Robinson, Joseph Whelan, Trevor Albro, Marquis Roberts, Yuto Hiraki, Tony Jin, Freeman Paulson, Darius McGhee and William Huang.
