Tim Thomas Returns as Football Assistant Head Coach

Blue Ridge School welcomes Tim Thomas to the 2019 coaching staff for varsity football. Thomas will serve as Assistant Head Coach, as well as Defensive Coordinator. Thomas has more than 35 years of coaching experience, including two previous stints with the Blue Ridge School Barons. In 2016, Coach Thomas led the Barons to the Division 2 State Championship and was named the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Coach of the Year. This past season Thomas coached in Marietta, Georgia, with perennial national powerhouse Walton High School.

Blue Ridge School Football Head Coach Jimmy Wills says, “Coach Thomas has been a friend and mentor of mine for a long time. Tim is a true ‘football guy.’ Having his knowledge and experience back on our sideline is a huge win for me, our staff, our players, and the entire Blue Ridge community.”

“Tim Thomas is a man who has dedicated decades of his life to coaching,” adds Headmaster Trip Darrin. “He is a gifted motivator, yet fundamentally patient and humble. We’re thrilled to have Coach Thomas back at Blue Ridge School and look forward to the contributions he will make to Coach Wills’ team.”

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health as well as a Master of Science in Physical Education from Indiana State University. He was a graduate assistant in the Adapted Physical Education Department while a doctoral candidate in the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education. His is a Navy veteran and served in the Vietnam War.
