William “Bill” Carlton ’73

January 3, 1954 – February 2, 2017

Blue Ridge School is saddened to have only recently heard of the passing of William “Bill” Carlton ’73 on February 2, 2017, from complications caused by diabetes.  He is survived by his wife Anita and his brother Bob ’69.  Bill, who went by the longer name of William P S Carlton in his later years, was a four-year boy and served as a Prefect.  Many of the pictures in the yearbooks in the early 70’s are ones taken by Bill.  Having been a valuable member of the track team for three years, he held the record for the 440-yard dash.  This record had been previously held by his brother Bob.

Bill graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Building Construction and went on to have a successful career in the construction industry as he rose to the rank of Area Project Manager in the Orange County Public Schools with 3di Inc.  He was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia.  He then lived in Orlando, Florida, for quite some time but was living in Oakland, California, at the time of his passing.  Bill loved fly fishing for trout, copying antique furniture and growing hydroponic herbs and vegetables.  He is remembered for his great attitude and sense of humor as he would laugh at the drop of a hat when something struck his fancy, which was usually once a day.
