Just as technology and its applications are an ever-evolving construct, Blue Ridge School’s approach to instruction in—and use of—technology also undergoes continual refinement along two distinct yet related paths. Each year the faculty reviews and documents its use of hardware, software, and peripherals (such as 3-D printers and laser cutters) across the curriculum, mirroring the uses of such tools at the college level and in the workplace. Thus, students graph data first by hand and then using Excel; share, peer edit, and upload written work via Google classroom; make use of cellphones and cameras to capture images and data in the field; and employ iPad apps and online sites for finding, organizing, memorizing, and disseminating information.
Our entrepreneurship courses examine the core skills, principles, and thought processes of some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs. Students examine the decision making process of expert entrepreneurs through case-studies, creative exercises, and live interviews with global experts. This process allows students to develop all of the skills necessary to be a successful entrepreneur, not just in the context of their “home run” idea, but when applied to any situation or venture they set their mind to.
